What if CLAT 2015 Results are cancelled? What if CLAT 2015 is to be conducted again? What if CLAT 2015 Committee has to reschedule the entire CLAT Counselling?

Uncertainty looms large for NLU aspirants who appeared for CLAT 2015 even as the online CLAT 2015 Counselling process continues for seat allotment at all 16 National Law Universities across India.

While the CLAT 2015 committee has been trying to ward off cynicism by releasing Answer Key, OMR Answer Sheets and Question Papers, impending Allahabad High Court hearing on a petition alleging discrepancies in CLAT exam and result process keeps students flummoxed.

Careers360 brings you a brief on CLAT related allegations made by students; and also an advisory on the possible scenarios for all CLAT candidates.

Latest – CLAT 2015 Official Question Paper and Answer Key released by RMLNLU

Latest – After CLAT 2015 Committee released the CLAT question papers with answer keys, test-takers have questioned the accuracy of the answer key, leading CLAT conducting authority to withhold thefirst indicative list of CLAT 2015 seat allotment which was scheduled to be declared on June 2.

CLAT 2015 has been conducted by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) for admission to 2164 seats distributed among 16 NLUs.

What are the allegations?

Few CLAT 2015 candidates have put some allegations over RMLNLU and had filed the Writ to the Allahabad HC on same grounds.

Allegation 1 – A girl candidate who has secured a State Rank of 51 is shown to have obtained a State Women Ranking of 105.

Allegation 2 – A person who scored 26.25 marks was given an All India ranking of 4539 while another candidate with a similar CLAT score was given an All India Rank of 25073.

Allegation 3 – Malafide against another two respondents, who appear to have been the only institutes informed of the fact that the examination would be online examination.

Allegation 4 – A large number of students from the two Institutes (another two respondents) alone have secured very high marks.

Allegation 5 – As per the Brochure result was to be published on the website carrying over all merit list of declared candidates along with their categories and the same has not been done and published by the organizing University till date.

Alleging discrepancies, CLAT 2015 candidates had approached Allahabad High Court demanding release of CLAT question papers. CLAT test taker Aditya Dua along with 10 others has petitioned in the High Court seeking release of questions paper of the online entrance exam conducted on May 10. Subsequent to the petition filed on May 25, the High Court also sought response from RMLNLU in this matter within four weeks.

On the other hand, CLAT 2015 Convener Dr. J.D. Gangwar had clarified that 1 question was wrong in CLAT 2015 paper and 1 bonus mark was awarded to all candidates irrespective of their attempts to that particular question. Subsequently, the exam authority had also released the OMR Response Sheet and Answer Keys on May 23.

What the Counsel of Petitioners says?

Advocate Manish Goyal, who is the counsel of CLAT petitioners in Allahabad HC, in conversation with Careers360, shared that a disproportionate number of candidates from two particular coaching institutes had secured top ranks in CLAT. “This smells rat,” he said, adding, he was preparing more details for HC hearing on July 9.

The advocate said that the High Court has issued notices to the respondents, RMLNLU and CLAT Committee, seeking their responses within four weeks beginning from May 25. “Allahabad High Court has directed RMLNLU to publish the results in accordance with the provisions of Brochure as appearing in CLAT 2015 Brochure or show cause to the Court on or before July 9,” he added.

What CLAT 2015 Committee and Convener say?

CLAT 2015 Convener, Dr. J.D. Gangwar, however, refuted all allegations saying the CLAT 2015 process has been very transparent and RMLNLU is committed to take all measures to clear any confusion regarding the examination and evaluation process.

Talking to Careers360, he said “The allegations are baseless. We have been trying to maintain the examination decorum and transparency to our best. Moreover, we are following what we have committed in CLAT 2015 Brochure.”

Responding to the allegations on CLAT questions lifted from a previous CAT paper, Dr. J.D. Gangwar justified lifting questions in a few circumstances. “There is no set pattern to ask questions and why can’t some questions be asked from the previous years’ questions. I don’t think this is a problem area.”

He said that so far the CLAT committee has declared all relevant data including OMR response Sheet, Answer key and question papers. “We have also released CLAT 2015 question papers and it has been done for the very first time since 2008 when CLAT was started. We need not prove anything as truth doesn’t need any proof. It is crystal clear to everyone,” he added.

The Convener also said that due to some technical reasons CLAT 2015 first indicative seat allotment listscheduled for May 31 release, were postponed for June 2. He says, “The list is displayed on CLAT 2015 website and candidates can check their allotment list on their CLAT 2015 login id as soon as it's announced.”

What next?

While, the next court hearing for on CLAT Writ is scheduled for July 9, the entire CLAT 2015 Admission Procedure will be ending by July 6. So, what will happen if court order comes in favour of CLAT 2015 petitioners? What if the allegations are proved correct in the Court?

The stakeholders have their own perspective to this issue.

Advocate Manish Goyal on behalf of the petitioners and other CLAT aspirants said that if the court order comes in favour of petitioners, there are certain possibilities:

Possibility 1 – RMLNLU may have to publish the CLAT 2015 Results fresh and accordingly the entire schedule will be re-announced.

Possibility 2 – RMLNLU may have to re-conduct the counselling for all seats where the non-meritorious candidates will be replaced by the ones who may have secured the actual merit.

On the other side, Dr. J.D. Gangwar, CLAT 2015 Convener said that “CLAT 2015 Committee will abide by the High Court’s order.”  But he confidently added, “all the allegations will be disapproved by the honorable court. We are with the CLAT 2015 aspirants and the court order will only help restore their faith in CLAT process.”

What CLAT 2015 aspirants now need to do?

Whatever the court decisions be, on any side the loser will be only the CLAT takers. What do the CLAT 2015 aspirants need to do in amidst of all these. There are few advisories for them –

  • The case is in the court of law and it may take more than expected time Thus, depending on a favorable order for your 2015 academic planning may not be a wise idea.

  • If you are eligible to appear for CLAT 2015 counselling, participate for the 2164 seats and lock your choices on the scheduled dates. If you won’t participate, you yourself will close a door of an option

  • If you are not in the merit list of CLAT 2015 and not participating in CLAT Counselling, don’t worry or get disheartened, go for other law colleges where CLAT 2015 scores are accepted. Click here to get the list of colleges accepting CLAT 2015 scores

  • Colleges like ILS Pune and GLC Mumbai too offer five-year integrated law programmes including BA LLB. The application windows are still open for both institutes; you can also apply to these institutes

  • The world never ends here. If you feel that you had not appeared in CLAT with your all-out effort, you can seriously think of one more year of preparation for CLAT 2016.

CLAT 2015 is the basis for admission to 2164 seats of BA LLB across 16 NLUs in India.
